Advantages of Intermediate Bulk Containers Over Barrels
Barrels have long been the go-to container for transporting liquids and granular goods, but increasingly people are choosing intermediate bulk containers instead. IBCs come in a variety of sizes — often exceeding the load capacities of barrels. IBC models range from small tanks to large 300+ gallon containers.
For efficiency, IBCs are the top choice. Barrels’ circular shape creates dead space between the containers when in storage or packed into a truck, so they are not the most efficient containers for shipping. Our intermediate bulk containers’ straight walls allow you to maximize the space, which can help reduce your storage and shipping costs.
Another reason many warehouses, processors, and distributors prefer plastic intermediate bulk containers is that they are easier to handle than circular containers. With integrated pallet bases, IBCs make, loading and unloading your freight less risky for the workers and the product inside. What’s more, if you use collapsible intermediate bulk containers, then the return shipping costs for the empty containers could be far lower than shipping empty barrels.
Plus, our intermediate bulk containers can come equipped with features that further enhance the efficiency of shipping and storage. These include sloped drainage bases, foldable side walls, interlocking stacking features, four-way pallet bottoms, and ergonomic handles.
